Mask Monday: Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask: Blemish Prone Skin

I got the Shea Moisture’s African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask from TJMAXX after seeing a YouTuber JuicyJas talk about this brand in one of her TJMAXX shop with me videos.

Here is a little bit about this mask:

Shea Moisture’s African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask draws out dirt and congestion while helping absorb excess oil and improve the appearance of troubled skin. A proprietary blend of African Black Soap and Raw Shea Butter help to clarify, balance, and soothe blemish-prone skin. Skin feels purified and refreshed.

  • Made with natural and certified organic ingredients.
  • African Black Soap is a natural remedy for blemished, troubled skin.
  • Tamarind Extract is a natural astringent which helps exfoliate and brighten skin.
  • Tea Tree Oil promotes healing with naturally anti-septic properties

So I applied this mask all over my face, the consistency was a little weird, meaning, it was on the thinner side, but it was pretty goopy and felt more like a cream.

You are supposed to leave this mask on for 10 minutes, and let me tell you, I was not able to do that. I took it off after like 7 minutes! I felt such a burning and tingling sensation on my face, but only on my nose and surrounding my nose.
Everywhere else felt okay.

When I rinsed it off my skin felt super sensitive, and when I went with my regular skincare routine my face felt really sensitive as well! Meaning, the lotion and the creams I put on my face burned, but again it was only near my nose.

The rest of my face looked okay, it looked a little bit more fresh. But overall not a huge improvement.

The next day, my skin around my nose felt super dry, and you could see how it was dry underneath my makeup.

I want to use this again, but the way it made my skin feel I am super iffy. After reading reviews I saw a lot of people felt this way. If you have any dry skin I would not recommend this product. They said it stings the dry portions of your face, and a lot of people get super red afterwards.

Have you used this before? What was your experience?

Melissa

  1. I used this product yesterday ( July 4th, 2020) and not long after I applied the mask to my face I felt a slight burning sensation. The directions said to leave it on for 10 minutes so I thought that was normal and left the mask on for the instructed time. After 10 minutes I removed the mud mask and my face looked as if I had been sun burned! I washed my face with soap and water to wash off any of the excess product and that helped some. My face appeared sun burned for at least 3 hours!
