If some of you don’t know, I worked at a tanning salon for 5 years! Right out of high school and quit after college to get a job in my career. I still sometimes help out at the tanning salon and airbrush from time to time.

I have to admit I was tanning regularly, but now, I am trying to cut back and try and self tan more, so over the next few weeks you will learn about some of my favorite self tanners.

Golden Star contacted me via my email, and asked me to try out their products and work with them. I was so excited! It came at the perfect time, and I wanted to try and find the best tanning products for my skin!

Let me talk about the Body self tanner first The face tanner will come next week! It is made with Pure, natural and organic ingredients perfectly blended to create a rich and natural tan. ORGANIC OILS (JOJOBA OIL, AVOCADO OIL, MACADAMIA OIL, EVENING PRIMROSE OIL), ORGANIC EXTRACTS (CALENDULA and MEADOWSWEET EXTRACT), HYALURONIC ACID and INTENSE MOISTURIZERS. Made in the USA with no rub off cosmetic colors, no nasty chemicals, no parabens, no formaldehyde, vegan and cruelty free.

Directions:

STEP ONE: Exfoliate, wax and shave your skin (preferably 24 hours) before tanning.

STEP TWO: Apply self tanning oil to clean, dry skin. Simply spray on, distribute evenly and rub in like any other body oil. Apply less on bendable areas and on areas where your skin is drier (knees, elbows, feet and ankles). It is important to cover all areas and make sure you don’t leave any gaps for a streak free tan. Don’t worry if you go over the same area twice – the tan will only be patchy if you miss a bit, not if you double cover.

STEP THREE: If you don’t use latex gloves or tanning mitt wash your hands immediately after application. Allow 10 minutes to dry before putting any clothes on. Avoid water and any activity that might cause you sweat at least 8 hours after application.

The sunless tan will start to develop within few hours. However full color development is seen 24 hours after application

It was super easy to apply! It comes with a glove and all you do is spray the oil on you and rub! I like how you just sort of spray the oil on your skin, but it doesn’t come out as a mist, its more like a squirt, so its really easy to see where it is and rub all over. It is like a dry oily, more on the watery side. The light consistency enables the skin to absorb the self tanning oil much faster/in a few minutes after application so there isn’t a greasy residue on your skin and you can put your clothes on in 5-10 minutes after the application.

There is no color guard but make sure you just rub it thoroughly all over your body! I recommend going in sections. For example, if you are working on your leg, spray the front/side of your thigh first, rub it in, then the back/other side and rub it in. Then do your shin and then your calf.

For tops of your feet, and hands I recommend using the leftover solution from the surrounding areas and rubbing it in that way! Also, make sure to make a claw like motion with your hand so your hand will be evenly tanned!

It doesn’t have much of a “fake tan” smell, and if it does, it very minimal to me! It doesn’t feel oily or greasy, and dries down very fast! It didn’t even mess with my white/black sheets.

The next day I has such a nice glowy tan! I looked like I just stepped off the beach! You can build this up if you want too! Just wait 24 hours! If you would like to achieve a darker tan, you will need to apply it 2 – 3 times (depending on your skin type). My skin also felt super hydrated.

The best part is you don’t have to worry if you go over the same area twice, the tan will only be patchy if you miss a bit.

What is even better is it doesn’t fade weird! One thing I did learn from working at a tanning salon is that once you shower after you self tan, you want to make sure that you are super hydrated! Make sure your lotion doesn’t contain any alcohol, so you will have a nice tan for as long as possible.
