Revel Nail Polish

Who loves a nice mani but hates how quick it chips? Who loves getting their nails done but hate the salon costs? ME. Well guys, I found a solution.  I have been using Revel Nail for almost a year now and love it so much.

IMG_9136Revel Nail is a company who makes dip powders. Check out some of their information here.  Apparently the dip powder is a healthier alternative to acrylics and last just as long as acrylics (if done properly).  I get so many compliments on my nails and sometimes get them to last up to 3 weeks! It takes me about a hour to a hour and a half. To me, it’s perfect. I spend that time at a salon, but now I can do my nails in the comfort of my own home.

So soaking off the nail powder takes me about 10-20 minutes. A tip I learned is to boil hot water, take a bowl and fill the bowl with hot water. Then take a sandwich bag and fill it with a little acrylic. Then, put the bag in the water and put your nails in there and rub them together, it speeds up the soaking process. Some people put paper towels in it to help them scrub it off, but I just use my fingers.

I first buff my nails VERY lightly do get rid of the shine with a nail file. It makes the first liquid and the powder stick better. I apply the powder in 3 steps. I’ll first apply the #1 liquid to 1/4 of my nail starting from the bottom up, then dunk my nail in the powder. Then I’ll do 3/4, then the full nail. Tip– don’t go all the way to the cuticle on the last dip- that will cause lifting issues later. Then I apply the #2 liquid, a lot of it. Tip– make sure you cap the edges! I wait the 2 minutes then shape, smooth and file my nails. I use an electric drill from Harmon, it costs about $10. I make sure the area around my cuticles are thin. Then I wash with water, apply the same # 2 liquid, and wait 2 minutes. Then I apply the 3rd liquid in 2-3 quick swipes on each nail, wait 15 seconds and apply the second coat of #3, capping off all edges and going close to the cuticle.

Tip– make sure when you use number 1 you always wipe the brush on a clean napkin before putting it back in the bottle- each time. This helps the liquid not get clumpy. Also make sure you close each bottle tightly and store in an upright position.

The only complaints I have about Revel are the liquids and the fumes. Number 1 & 3 both become very hard, thick and clump after a few months, even if you follow all the directions. BUT, Revel’s customer service is aware of it and they are trying to fix the formula.  They send you replacement bottles if you email them too. Their customer service is actually amazing. They also claim to be odor-free but I know a few other people (and myself) have issues with the smell! I have to wear a mask (you can take a look here) otherwise it gives me bad chest and sinus issues. But the mask helps clear out the smell. Some people also make sure their windows are open to get the fumes out.

The starter kit comes with the 3 liquids, a brush softener and a 2 oz. color of your choice for $49.99 with free shipping. They also sell .5 oz. ($7.99) jars and 1 oz. ($14.99) jars. They do charge a shipping fee no matter what your order cost is (besides the starter kit).  I do know that a 1 oz. jar is pretty big, so you’re set if you purchase a few of those! I have over 20 colors, a lot I know! But I love nails.
