Top 10 Skincare Mistakes You’re Making

Today I wanted to share some common skincare mistakes that we are all making! Here are some tricks and tips for you all.

Over exfoliating/not exfoliating

If you exfoliate too much, it can lead to dryness, irritation, and inflammation! But if you don’t exfoliate enough, it will result in clogged, dull skin that is more prone to acne and dryness. Also, if you don’t exfoliate then your skin won’t soak up the benefits of your moisturizers and glitters because your pores are clogged. Exfoliating helps decrease the amount of blackheads and pimples. It also helps create a smoother surface. It is recommended to exfoliate 2-3 times a week.

*Tip: avoid walnut scrubs, or scrubs with walnut in it because it is super harsh to your skin*

Not Wearing Sunscreen Every Day

Most people think that sunscreen is just for the beach! But think again! You’re supposed to wear it everyday because everyday you are in the sun. Even if you are not sitting in the sun, the sun ray’s will get to your skin.

Cleansing too often

Some people think, the more you clean your face the better but it’s actually not true! That can dry out your skin! The soap can strip your skin of oils, which can make you more oily, can cause clogged pores, whiteheads and blackheads.

Some people can wash morning and night- just use a mild cleanser. My skin actually can’t tolerate it- I break out and get super dry if I wash 2x a day! So I was my face with my face wash at night, and just rinse with water in the morning.

Tugging at your eye area

The eye area is the most delicate area because the skin there is just so thin. I’m guilty of doing this- when I take my eye make off, I am one to wipe it away, back and fourth with a makeup wipe.

*Tip: just hold a cotton pad which had makeup remover on it on your lid for about 20-30 seconds before wiping it away!*

Another good trick is always use your ring finger when you apply eye creams because it will add the least amount of pressure on your eye area. It is also good to use a tapping motion instead of rubbing so your skin doesn’t drag.

Sleeping with makeup on

This happens to the best of us, but try to let it not happen. Makeup can clog up your pores because it can block sweat. Eye makeup can get in your eye and cause eye issues.

*Tip: worst case, at least take it off with a makeup wipe.*

Picking At Your Face

I know, I know, you’ve been told this your entire life. Don’t worry though I won’t get into this too much, but just don’t do it! You’ll end up with scars, wrinkles and irritation.

Using Dirty Makeup Brushes

Imagine you’re using your makeup brushes all the time, now imagine all the bactria that is on them. Nasty right? Go and wash them at least once a week. Invest in a brush cleaner. Keeping your brushes clean will make sure that dirt and old makeup buildup won’t effect your skin.

Not Moisturizing Oily Skin

Take this from me! My skin is SUPER oily and I don’t go one day without moisturizing it! If you’re oily and you don’t moisturize your skin? You’ll get even more oily!! Your skin will overcompensate for the loss of hydration with more oil production, leading to breakouts!

You’re stopping at the jawline

Don’t forget to bring all skincare down to your neck and chest! Don’t have a super young and bright looking face, with an aging neck or chest! Sun often hits our chest and neck as well so make sure to get them as well!

You’re Not Drinking Enough Water

You have probably heard this a lot too! But drink as much water as you can a day! It is recommended to drink, eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters. Drinking more water will help your skin clear up, keep you full, and has so many more benefits. So, just do it!
