I received the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette Vol 1 in my January BoxyCharm. It retails for $36 USD and you can purchase it here.
It is described as, “Indulge in an eyeshadow palette that hydrates the lids while delivering intense, never chalky, pigment. The creamy powder formula comes in 8 extremely blendable velvet shades. The long-wear shadows are enriched with vitamin E and antioxidants, helping to balance and protect the lids. “

Okay, so here’s the thing about this palette. I am just not a fan at all! I tried using it with a brush, packing it on, smudging it on, stamping it on, and I even tried it with my finger. Truth be told I didn’t like it either way!
I feel like there was no pigmentation to the colors, any which way I was using it, I just didn’t get enough color payoff. I felt like I was digging into the palette at some points, and it still wasn’t providing me with the color I need.
When I put my finger in the pan, I did get color, but when I applied it to my eyelid, I feel like the color’s vibrancy and pigmentation just went away.
In my video, I stated I feel like this would be a good palette for the summer. You know, when you’re at the beach for a week, and you just want a nice natural, barely there pigment? That kinda look? Yeah, it would be good for that, but to be honest, I don’t even think I’ll reach for it then. Just because I know other palettes can bring me more pigment. When I’m away and I want that kinda look, I’d bring a better palette with all sorts of colors just in case I wanted to change it up for a day.
It just wasn’t my cup of tea. Especially for the price point of $36. I love Tarte eye-shadows (especially their mermaid one) and this one just wasn’t up to Tartes other palettes. They did say that this palette is meant to be used with a finger, and is perfect for quick looks, but to be honest, it took me a LONG time to get pigment just because nothing was showing up on my lids. So that selling point just wasn’t helping its case, for me at least.
If you like very minimal color, this palette may be for you! If not you can totally get Tarte’s other palettes for about the same price, perfect for on the go and very pigmented. Check out their palettes here.
Have you tried this palette? What are your thoughts?
